Duct Cleaning Estimating
Insurance recognizes three categories of duct cleaning: Regular, Hazardous, Trauma. PuroClean Northwest does duct cleaning only on its own cleaning assignments, chiefly for hazardous and trauma scenes. Following are the recommended rates for estimating purposes:
Categories:
Hazardous
Interior Mold
Cat 3
Fire (all types – Wood, Protein, Synthetic)
Biohazard
Blood Biohazard
Drug Biohazard (fentanyl, meth, anything clandestine)
Gross Biohazard (Fecal Matter, Rodents, Lice, Level 4 or 5 Hoarding)
Virus Biohazard (COVID, C-Diff, etc.)
Example Estimates:
Example 1
1700 square foot split level home. Synthetic Fire. Air handler was operating.
This is a Hazardous Materials assignment; home has 2 return air ducts and 15 supply air ducts. Some registers had to be unscrewed, and others just lifted off the floor.
Estimate: (17 x $90) + $800 = $2,330.
For this to be 20% labor job two techs have to complete the job together in 5 hours, or 10 manhours total. Use a labor rate of $46 per hour, which includes salary, benefits, taxes, etc. for the technician. The cost to have a technician.
Example 2
2500 square foot tri-level home. Meth clean up. Air handler running as normal.
This is Biohazard Assignment – clandestine drug clean up home has 3 return air ducts and 22 supply air ducts. Some registers had to be unscrewed and others just lifted off the floor.
Estimate: (25 x $175) + $1,700 = $6,075.
This assignment is anticipated to require two technicians working 12 hours each, totaling 24 technician-hours. At $46 per hour labor, the total labor rate would be approximately 18%, which is entirely acceptable.
