Cleaning FENTANYL from a biohazard event involves specific procedures to ensure safety and compliance with legal and health regulations. This procedure outlines the necessary equipment, chemicals, and steps to effectively Contain, Control, Neutralize, and Remove.

  • TURN OFF HVAC

  • CLEAN DUCTS/AIR HANDLER AFTER STRUCTURE ABATED (USE DUCT PROCEDURE)

  • THIS PROCEDURE INSUFFICIENT AS WRITTEN

    • TRAINING AND OVERSIGHT BY A CERTIFIED HIGH RISK HIGH LEVEL DECONTAMINATION SPECIALIST IS REQUIRED

Equipment Necessary:

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

    • Nitrile Gloves: 6 mil

    • Heavy Duty Nitrile Gloves: 15 mil (tape wrists)

    • MaxAir Headset: For respiratory protection against aerosolized particles. Facemask, charged batteries, helmet.

      1. Only for Contain, Control, and Remove steps.

      2. Use Face Shield with Shroud

    • Respirator: Full-face,

      1. Only for Neutralize step.

    • Suits: White coveralls with long sleeve and foot protection.

      1. Yellow coveralls acceptable

      2. Seam-protected White Coveralls preferred

    • Boot Covers: Disposable.

  2. Cleaning Supplies:

    • 5-Gallon Bucket: For mixing chemistry solutions.

    • Battery Electrostatic Sprayers

      1. Hand Held, Victory

      2. Backpack, Victory

    • Foam Sprayer: Multi-Sprayer.

    • Hand-Held Misting Unit: For delicate wetting of materials.

    • Microfiber Cloths: For wiping surfaces, 19” and 5”. Also hand-held for trim.

    • Swivel-head Microfiber Mop: For cleaning larger floor areas. 19” and 5”.

    • Fogger: Backpack, 4-gallon capacity.

  3. Chemicals Needed:

    • Disinfectant:

      1. Chem Decon, A, B, C

      2. Citric Acid

    • Disinfectant:

      1. Vital Oxide

      2. SoRite

  4. Supporting Equipment:

    • Carrying Tray: For Misting Unit, Evidence Markers, Cones, Blue Paper Towels, Plastic Putty Knives, Drywall Mud Trays

    • Yellow Numbered Evidence Markers

    • Small Orange Cones

    • Blue Paper Towels

    • Plastic Putty Knives

    • Drywall Mud Trays

    • BioHazard Box: Cardboard Box, 42-Gallon Contractor Bag, Red Biohazard Bag

Step-by-Step Procedure: (Always in Full PPE)

1. CONTAIN

  • 6-mil containment as required. Close off doors and windows.

  • Survey the Structure

  1. Mark Off Room Treated Floor (cones)

2. Mist Over Unidentified Powder, 90 second dwell

  • Cover With Blue Shop Towel

  • Re-Wet

  • Remove With Putty Knife

  • Dispose of in Bio Box

2. CONTROL

  • Spray (Electrostatic) with SoRite (3-Foot Distance) – 90 second dwell

    1. Floor First (mark with Cones and Markers)

    • Contents As Reached

    • Treat Newly Exposed Floor

2. Walls Second

3. Ceiling Third

4. Remove Treated Contents

3. NEUTRALIZE (Use Full-Face Respirator – Not MaxAir)

  • Dry Mop Walls and Ceiling – Picture Frame and Verticals

  • Foam Chem Decon A, B, C. Ceiling and Walls

  • Agitate with Microfiber Mops – Picture Frame and “Sweeping S Horizontal”

  • Using A, B, C, Heavily Fog Entire Affected Area(s)

  • This Completes This Day’s Work – Let Foamed A, B, C Sit Overnight

4. REMOVE:

  • Wet microfiber with Vital Oxide, wipe down with microfiber.

Post-Cleanup:

1. Waste Disposal:

  • Dispose of all used microfiber materials.

  • Dispose of contents only after thorough application of disinfectant via fogger.

2. Hygiene Practices:

  • Wash hands thoroughly WITH SOAP AND WATER, NOT ALCOHOL-BASED HAND SANITIZER after removing PPE and completing the cleanup

  • Mist Disinfect Cones, Markers,
